July 27 marked the opening of the new Sanxingdui Museum, attracting streams of visitors with its innovative use of technology to enhance the preservation, research and exhibition of historical artifacts.
To ensure that newly unearthed treasures can be displayed while providing the proper protection, a new method called "digital restoration demonstration" has been employed in the "Heaven, Earth, Man and Gods" exhibition area. In this method, the skilled restoration experts manually piece together the artifacts, combining their expertise with AI algorithms. Through digital simulations, they use 3D printing to craft exact replicas of these artifacts, capturing every intricate detail, truly bringing history back to life. "We're using AI technology and 3D printing for artifact restoration and exhibition, ensuring both preservation and engaging experiences," said a staff from the museum.
In the "Dreams of the Century" section, visitors are treated to an immersive "archaeological capsule" experience, employing naked-eye 3D technology to recreate archaeological scenes, which showcase recent discoveries in the six new pits of the Sanxingdui site. For the diverse requirements of artifact preservation, the museum employs a state-of-the-art temperature and humidity control system.
In addition, the museum's walls are fortified with newly developed concrete that reacts with indoor air to enhance structural strength. These walls are also equipped with earthquake-resistant exhibit cabinets in order to create a dual protective shield.
The new Sanxingdui museum combines the marvels of ancient times with the wonders of modern technology.
