Mid-Autumn Festival
Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month. It is a time for family members and loved ones to congregate and enjoy the full moon - an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and luck in Chinese traditions. Besides admiring the moon, there are many other customs, such as eating moon cakes and guessing lantern riddles. As a traditional Chinese festival, this event has many attractive stories, the most famous of which is Chang -e's running to the moon. Out of the yearning for this beautiful myth, China's lunar exploration project is named the Chang'e Project. On Dec. 17, 2020, Chang'e-5 mission retrieved samples from the Moon weighing about 1,731 grams, which were the first lunar samples in the world over 40 years.
