Dr. Chenzi Guo is the deputy head of the Light Publishing Group, director of the eLight journal, and editor of the Light: Science & Applications (LSA) journal. A post-90s zoomer, she was a rookie when the LSA started and now she is a leader who helped launch eLight. In June 2024, eLight scored its first impact factor of 27.2, ranking No.2 in optics publications. Let's look at DR. Guo’s work at the Light Publishing Group.

The LSA was launched in 2012 by CIOMP (cradle of Chinese optics) and Springer Nature, and has been indexed by SCI since 2013. In 2019 when China's Outstanding STM Journal Move was initiated, the LSA was selected as a leading journal. Now, it is widely recognized as a global leading optics journal, and has 25 regional offices around the world.

Leading journal propels its nascent sister journals. Launched in 2021, eLight is managed by the LSA team. Its target is to break news on work in all interdisciplinary fields related to optics. eLight was recognized as a high-profile new journal by China's Outstanding STM journal Move, and has just received its first impact factor of 27.2, ranking second among all optics journals. The Light Publishing Group brings out 13 STM journals under 21 editors.

In the early days of the LSA, many scoffed at the team’s ambition to establish a leading optics journal. But Prof. Yuhong Bai, founder of the LSA and director of Light Brand, said dreams that are not laughed at are not real dreams. Dr. Guo was deeply encouraged by this.

To get breaking manuscripts for eLight, Dr. Guo scouts conferences, academic activities and even  preprints. Then she seeks to convince the authors to let her publish their work. On some occasions, she spent almost two years to persuade the authors.

Like the LSA and eLight, an increasing number of our STM journals are gaining high visibility. Dr. Guo highly appreciates the platform of CIOMP and Light Publishing Group, as well as the Outstanding STM Journal Move, which she says have provided a crucial platform for STM journals and editors.

"I'd like to acknowledge the Youth Talent Program of Move. I appreciate its philosophy of 'selecting talented editors and excellent ideas' and the degree of freedom for us to devise the program. This program gives me valuable opportunities and enables me to collaborate with many talented editors." Dr. Guo told Science Popularization Times.

In 2019, Dr. Guo won the National Campaign for Young Editors in STM Journals. "Since then, I've been given many precious opportunities. I hope these valuable platforms can reach more and more talented editors in the future," she said.
