With climate change bringing about unprecedented challenges to the human race, achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality is now the common goal of the international community, which has a bearing on the survival and development of humankind, said Dai Gang, director-general of the department of international cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

Dai made the remarks via video at the China-Croatia Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Seminar on Green Transformation of Electric Power on September 14. He pointed out that the power industry was key to clean energy transition, which requires international cooperation on sci -tech innovation to tackle the challenges emerging during the process.

Energy transition is a paradigm shift that concerns the climate, economy, as well as society, said Staša Skenžić, director of European affairs and international cooperation, the Ministry of Science and Education of Croatia.

Co-sponsored by China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC) and Croatian Science Foundation, the seminar acts as a platform for deeper government-academia-industry cooperation between the two countries in the field of green power.

According to Gao Xiang, director-general of CSTEC, the cooperation between China and Croatia in the field of clean electricity enjoys a good foundation and broad prospects. He hoped that his view could be shared and become a consensus, so as to empower green transformation of electricity for both sides.

Nikola Mišković, vice dean, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, Croatia, said the faculty has been working with North China Electric Power University on green energy research, and he expected more exchanges.

Focusing on the key areas of clean power development, engineers and scientists from the two countries shared their expertise and advanced technologies, and discussed key areas of future cooperation, such as power systems with renewable energy sources, electric vehicles and multi-energy system. It is beneficial for the science and technology community of both sides to collaboratively implement the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
